The purpose of the SFCTCV is to bring together surgeons involved in the practice of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery.

The objectives are:

• The development of the scientific aspects of the specialty
• The organization of scientific meetings and the publication of the work of the Society
• The inital and ongoing training of specialists and participation in their qualification
• The representation, especially with public authorities, of the whole of the specialty
• To develop relations with national, European or international organizations working in the same field of action
• The evaluation of the medical activities of the discipline
• The implementation of the accreditation procedure for doctors
